This morning was cafe church, a more informal and interactive way of worshipping together. We sang and prayed and reflected and created, all while sharing brunch.

We began by sharing something that had been good in the past week and something that had been hard, and then looked out to the world to pray for people and places in the news. A number of people led us in spoken prayer, and our minister offered prayer requests that had been written down. Our prayers included:

  • peace and democracy in the world

  • kindness and respect for the planet

  • the Middle East

  • our friends who are unwell

  • the welfare bill going through parliament

  • people to love one another

  • listening and understanding

  • Ukraine

  • the starving of the world

We then heard the story of David and Goliath and spent some time responding to it. Some people got creative making their own zines and decorating stones with the things they 'keep in their pocket' for hard times. Others spent time with some wondering questions:

  • I wonder what you liked about this story

  • I wonder what you didn't like about this story

  • I wonder what questions you have about this story

  • I wonder what this story tells us about God

  • I wonder what this story tells us about people

  • I wonder what this story means to you today

Perhaps you might like to go and look up the story of David and Goliath (you'll find it in 1 Samuel 17, or you could read it in a children's Bible as we did earlier) and do some wondering of your own...
